Colt Alexander Calkins
Fall 2020 mixed media: acrylics, ribbon and thread on Arches paper 16" X 20" plus framing Our niece had her first baby over the summer and this piece was inspired by a photo she took while she was still pregnant. This was our gift to her and took a really long time because of all the thread work, but I think it turned out pretty cool. 🙂 |
house renovating:
Aquarius & Brick Wall in my living room
My house is almost 60 years old, so renovating the place has become a passion. Our living room walls were ugly white and we decided to make them homey while expressing our individuality. My husband and I are both Aquarians, so I built a version of the constellation Aquarius on the photo wall, and a mural of bricks on all three other walls. This project took two years to do (2018-2019), primarily because we did it a little at a time so we could decide what parts we liked and didn't by living with it. The ceiling will be the next step in this project.

Polly WogMay 2016
acrylic on canvas; 11" X 14" plus framing commissioned by Trista Curwick A really fun piece commissioned by an old friend. Her only direction was that she wanted a cute frog, so I made one as colorful and vivid as possible. The constellation in the sky is Sagittarius, which is her Zodiac sign. |
Fluid Anguish, Solid Hopesummer 2016
11" X 14" acyrlic on paper An off handed acrylic piece that was meant to be a background for a worded collage. After leaving it for a couple of months, I decided I liked the piece as it was. The piece needed a name, so I decided to put it to a social media contest. The response was overwhelming. I chose 6 titles, then put those to another social media vote, and "Fluid Anguish, Solid Hope" by Brian Drummond of Las Vegas, NV, was the runaway winner. I love it. ---------- Prints are available in my shop. |
Las Vegas Food Junky
At the start of the year I had the privilege to do a NUMBER of projects to help my talented friend and chef, Maritza Purcell, get her pop up restaurant Food Junky up and running at Banger Brewing, located on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Projects included: the customization of two storage carts, creation of trivia table top tents used when delivering food,
painting two restaurant signs (duplicates of each other), designing her catering menu, creation of gift certificates, and monthly design of table top menus.
